As per tradition, K-Pop idols have taken to social media to wish fans a happy Chuseok, but what exactly is Chuseok?

According to 90dayskorean.com, Chuseok”is a traditional holiday where people go back to their hometowns to show appreciation for the fall food harvest. Chuseok is one of Korea’s biggest and most important holidays and an essential aspect of Korean culture.”

Also known as Korean Thanksgiving, this year’s Chuseok holiday will take place on the 10th of September, this Saturday.

The celebration of Chuseok reportedly started in the Silla kingdom by an ancient king and due to the country’s agricultural culture.

Chuseok includes a variety of celebration traditions including:

1.Charye (Korean ancestral worship rituals) with a variety of representative foods like freshly harvested rice, songpyeon rice cakes, and alcohol.

2. Beolcho (Korean ancestral grave maintenance)

3. And eating together with family and loved ones. Popular Chuseok foods include Songpyeon (traditional rice cake), Japchae (stir-fried noodles with vegtables), Jeon (Korean egg/flour pancakes), and Galbijjim (braised beef).

Within the world of K-Pop, idols often celebrate the holiday by wishing their fans a happy Chuseok through video message, and often release Chuseok themed variety programs in which the idols play traditional Korean games.

This year fans can also tune into MBC’s Idol Star Athletics Championship (ISAC) which will air over the Chuseok holiday. The popular program featured popular K-Pop stars competing in a variety of sports.

The upcoming ISAC is scheduled to include K-Pop artists: IVE, ITZY, STAYC, CIX, AB6IX, BVNDIT, EPEX, LIGHTSUM, LAPILLUS, WOODZ, CHOI YENA, BILLLIE, and KEP1ER.

Other participating artists include, ALICE, ATBO, ATEEZ, BRAVE GIRLS, CLASS:Y, DKB, DKZ, DRIPPIN, H1KEY, HA SUNGWOON, ICHILLIN’, JEONG SEWOON, JO YURI, KEP1ER, KIM JAE-HWAN, KINGDOM, KWON EUNBI, MCND, NCT, NMIXX, ONEUS, PURPLE KISS, ROCKET PUNCH, STRAY KIDS, TEMPEST, TAN, TNX, TRI.BE, and VERIVERY.

Finialy, WEEEKLY, WEI, XDINARY HEROES, and YOUNITE, will also be competing in the massive championship.
