History of Webtoon-Inspired K-Dramas

Webtoons are (mostly) Korean web-based comics distributed by major Korean media platforms such as Naver and Kakao. In recent years, webtoons have found increasing international fame.

Even K-Pop companies like HYBE Corp. are producing the comics (HYBE Corp. is currently collaborating with the Naver webtoon platform creating BTS, TXT, and ENHYPEN-inspired webtoons in 2022).

Since the mid-2010’s, TV stations and other K-Drama-producing platforms have turned to the in-depth and beloved stories told in webtoons for inspiration, creating some of the most popular Korean dramas of all time.

While naming every webtoon-inspired show would be endless, some of the most programs include “Itaewon Class,” “True Beauty,” “Hellbound,” “Sweet Home,” “Our Beloved Summer,” “D.P,” “Extraordinary You,” and “My ID is Gangnam Beauty.”
