NCT make headlines as American rapper Johnny attends the iconic Met Gala and Taeyong is announced as the MC of Mnet’s newest dance reality competition.
Johnny Suh Attends the 2022 Met Gala
While in the US, American rapper and NCT 127 member Johnny Suh stopped by the 2022 Met Gala event. Along with seeing Hamilton on Broadway and exploring Brooklyn, Johnny made headlines on his New York trip by attending the historic Met Gala.
Following this year’s theme, “Gilded Glamour,” Johnny appeared wearing a classic satin suit by Peter Do.
Teen Vogue said about Johnny at the Met Gala,
“The Chicago native graced the red carpet donning a fun take on tonight’s theme. Johnny fully embraced the white tie dress code encouraged by Vogue, rocking an ultra-long satin black tailcoat with silver detailing and a matching suit underneath — sans shirt, of course, to add the Johnny effect.
For shoes, he rocked Peter Do’s beloved black combat boots, which feature metal rims. When it comes to old-timey themes, you can always find a way to nail it while adding a modern twist and staying consistent with your aesthetic — and Johnny and Peter Do proved that tonight.”
Met Gala and K-Pop
Johnny debuted as one of NCT 127’s rappers in 2016 and is the only American member in the over 20 members of NCT. Since his debut, Johnny has long expressed his interest in street and high fashion. By attending the Met Gala, Johnny made history as one of only a handful of K-Pop artists who have appeared at the event. The list of K-Pop attendees throughout history includes PSY, Super Junior’s Siwon, Rain, EXO’s Lay, BLACKPINK’s Rose, and 2NE1’s CL.
Celebrities who attended the event include Squid Game star and top model Jung Hoyeon who attended in a stunning Louis Vuitton dress, among countless others.
Taeyong to Return As MC of SWF spin-off series
Announced on the 28th of April, NCT’s leader and top dancer Taeyong will be the MC for Mnet’s latest dance reality program.
The new show will be titled “Any Body Can Dance.” The plot follows amateur dancers and regular people who get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to train with the “Street Woman Figher” dance crew leaders, to become better and more skilled dancers.
- Other “Street Woman Fighter” spin-off series include “Street Dancer Girl Fighter” and “Street Man Fighter.”
Taeyong and Dance
Taeyong debuted on dance reality TV as a judge on “Street Woman Fighter,” along with fellow SM dancer and legendary K-Pop musician BoA and incredible choreographer Hwang Sang-hoon. Known for his unbelievable dance skills, Taeyong debuted, at 20 years old, as the leader of NCT and its sub-unit NCT 127 in 2016. Since then, Taeyong has become one of the most recognized and respected dancers in K-Pop and Korean Hip-Hop dance.
In the new program, Taeyong will be reunited with the leaders of the Street Woman Figher dance crews. The leaders include PROWDMON’s Monika, Holybang’s Honey J, Hook’s Aiki, CocaNButter’s RiHey, Want’s Hyojin Choi, LACHICA’s Gabee, and YGX’s Lee Jung. Since the incredible global popularity of SWF, the leaders and crews of the show have participated in a variety of reality programs and spin-off series across Mnet.
Fans can look forward to seeing Taeyong in his first MC role around June when the program is expected to start airing on Mnet.
Most recently, Taeyong released his solo SM STATION track “Love Theory.” The release (note: a station song is not an official comeback but a digital release) features beloved K-Hip-Hop rapper and former “Show Me The Money (Season 9)” contestant Wonstein. The playful station track, released two weeks ago, has already gained nearly 7.5 Million views from fans around the globe.
