Lovelyz to Disband after 7 years
On the first of November, the eight members of Lovelyz announced that the group is to officially disband on the 16th with the expiration of the members’ contracts with Woolim Entertainment. With only Baby Soul choosing to remain at Woolim Entertainment (the home to K-Idol groups such as Golden Child and Rocket Punch), the members have chosen to pursue solo careers.
Lovelyz is a much-beloved girl group. Following their debut in 2014, this group has enchanted listeners with tracks like “Ah-Choo,” “Obliviate,” and “Destiny.” Furthermore, the members of this group are known for their participation in the 2019 competition show, “Queendom.”
Like many artists, Lovelyz’s members were signed to Woolim Entertainment for the first seven years of their careers, the maximum contract period allowed under Korean law. It is not uncommon for groups to change companies or disband around this milestone.
- Gfriend disbanded as all members left Source Music
- All the members of GOT7 left JYPE, although the group is still together
- Whee In of Mamamoo left RBW, although she will still be promoting with the group.
With each Lovelyz member reaching for solo careers, what style of music do you think they will release?
SM Halloween Party Tradition Continues
In sillier news, SM Entertainment has continued its tradition of holding a company-wide Halloween party featuring over-the-top costumes by all the artists and musicians of the company.
The costumes of 2021 were a wide array of styles and concepts. Costumes inspired by the hit thriller K-Drama “Squid Game” make up the first category of outfits. Both aespa‘s Winter and Super Junior‘s Shindong came dressed as “Younghee” from the drama, while NCT‘s Jaemin and Jeno came as Squid Game’s masked guards.
The second category of costumes includes iconic movie characters from films such as Batman and Spider (SJ’s Siwon and NCT’s Mark). Other references included NCT’s KUN dressed as Kaonashi from the Studio Ghibli movie “Spirited Away” and NCT’s Taeyong and Jungwoo coming as Twilight’s Edward and Bella. Other brilliant movie-inspired costumes were NCT Renjun‘s “Pinnochio” costume and aespa NINGNING‘s “Black Swan” outfit, among many others.
Altogether this year’s Halloween costume party was a memorable addition to this playful company-wide tradition.
What were your favorite costumes from this year’s Halloween line-up? What were the best Idol Halloween costumes across K-Pop in 2021?
