New to K-pop? 7 K-Pop groups to get you started

One of K-Pop’s most recognizable genres is their group music. From BTS to Blackpink and many others, K-Pop groups have become some of the most successful musical forces in the world. Most K-Pop groups consist of more than three members, who trained together as trainees before their official debut (although there are exceptions.)

With so many groups, members, and genres, it can be tricky for new fans to know where to start. So here are 7 K-Pop groups to get you started…

Disclaimer: there are hundreds of different groups in different genres, forms, and concepts, this list includes the most recognizable K-Pop groups in the genre.

1. BTS

You’ve no doubt heard the name, millions of fans, sold-out tours, and one of the most successful music careers in the world, BTS are icons of this generation! Internationally, BTS has impressed with their beautiful music, jaw-dropping choreography, and incredible stage presence.

BTS is a seven-member group (RM, Jin, SUGA, J-Hope, V, Jimin, and Jungkook). The members debuted in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment (now HYBE).

2. Blackpink

With hit songs going viral in seconds and buckets of talent, Blackpink is one of the most successful musical acts in the world. Broken records, sold-out tours, and catchy chart-topping tracks, Blackpink has the Midas touch, and everything they touch turns to gold!

Blackpink is a four-member group (Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa). The members debuted in 2016 under YG Entertainment.

3. TWICE

Having nine uniquely talented members, including jaw-dropping dancers, impressive rappers, and stunning vocalists, TWICE is one of the most popular girl groups for a reason! Sweet concepts, memorable choreographies, and a celebrated discography, TWICE is beloved around the world!

TWICE is a nine-member group (Jihyo, Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu). The members debuted in 2015 under JYP Entertainment. Their debut followed the end of the competition show Sixteen, which resulted in the nine members listed above.

4. EXO

Are you looking for a group whose songs will get stuck in your head? Then EXO is the group for you! With a catchy discography and unique concepts, this group has become known for its earworm hits. Since their debut, this SM Entertainment group have been releasing energizing and addictive songs and albums. Throughout the years, this group has become trendsetters, artists, and sold-out performers.

EXO is currently a nine-member group (Suho, Xiumin, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O, Kai, and Sehun). The members debuted under SM Entertainment in 2012.

5. TXT

Debuting in 2019, this group has become known for its sweet melodies, catchy hooks, and electrifying albums! With millions of fans and chart-topping hits, in a short time, TXT has already taken over the world.

TXT is a five-member group (Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai). The members debuted under Big Hit Entertainment (now HYBE) in 2019.

6. Seventeen

Seventeen is a thirteen-member group consisting of a beautiful vocal unit, impressive performance unit, and excellent hip hop unit. With each member bringing their unique talents, the thirteen members of Seventeen have come together to make one of the most talented groups in K-Pop! 

Seventeen’s hip hop unit consists of S.coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, and Vernon. Seventeen’s vocal team consists of Woozi, Jeonghan, Joshua, DK, and Seungkwan. Finally, Seventeen’s performance unit consists of Hoshi, Jun, The8, and Dino.

7. Red Velvet

Catchy hits, jaw-dropping performances, and versatile concepts, Red Velvet have it all! The five members of this girl group have brought passion to all of their projects and stages. Fans love Red Velvet’s songs, albums, and versatile concepts! 

Red Velvet is a five-member group (Irene, Wendy, Seulgi, Joy, and Yeri). These members debuted under SM Entertainment in 2014/2015.
