(MEmo) Did you know BTS’ “Born Singer” was based on THIS Song?

BTS’ fan-favorite song “Born Singer,” originally released unofficially only a month after their debut on the 11th of July, 2013, it turns out, was based on American rap legend J.Cole’s 2013 track “Born Sinner.”

Perhaps coincidentally, J.Cole’s “Born Sinner” Single Cover also closely resembles the BTS ARMY emblem.
According to Wikipedia, “Born Sinner is the second studio album by American rapper J. Cole. It was released on June 18, 2013, by ByStorm Entertainment, Columbia Records, Dreamville Records and Roc Nation. The album serves as the follow-up to his debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story.”

BTS, then a rookie debut group, took the hip-hop song’s original composition, and BTS rapper-songwriters, RM, SUGA, and J.Hope, rewrote the lyrics, turning it into the now-iconic anthem detailing BTS’ passion and love for music.
After years as a fan secret, “Born Singer” is one of a few formerly-unofficial tracks that the members of BTS polished and re-recorded for their newest anthology record,”Proof.” The 2022-version of the song currently sits at Number 12 on South Korea’s Spotify Top 50.
