The start of Lim Young-woong’s career

Lim Young-woong’s career started with his debut release “Hate You” and his soon-followed second single, “What’s So Important?” While these tracks were not commercial successes, Lim Young-woong’s 2018 releases “Elevator” and a collaboration album with Park Seo-jin, Newness of Trot, gained the artist the nickname “Expressway Idol Star” due to the popularity of the music at expressway rest areas.

Winning Mr.Trot and Nationwide success

In 2020, Lim Young-woong’s popularity soared after winning the competitive audition program “Mr.Trot,” beating 17,000 applicants. The program’s success demonstrated the talent of the artists and the enduring popularity of Trot music in the modern Korean music industry.

• Following the program, this artist released his non-album single “Trust in Me,” the track debuted at number 20 on the Gaon Digital Chart and peaked at number 11 (making the track Lim Young-woong’s first top-20 track).

• His promotional single (with SsangYong Motor), titled “Hero,” became this artist’s first top-ten single debuting and peaking at seventh place on the Gaon Digital Chart.

• In 2020, Lim Young-woong became the first trot artist to have a YouTube channel with over one million subscribers with his most popular video gaining more than 46 million views.

After the rollercoaster of success in 2020, Lim Young-woong became the most searched person on Naver (the Korean search web portal).

IM HERO Album

In March of 2021, this talented trot artist released his to-date bestselling track named “My Starry Love,” the song was written by Seol Woon-do and debuted at the top of the Gaon Digital Chart. Furthermore, “My Starry Love” earned Lim Youngwoong his first music show win on Show! Music Core (the first trot-win on a music show in 14 years).

On the second of May, Lim Young-Woong released his long-awaited second album, “IM HERO.” The record is a collection of trot tracks and ballads that are a perfect reflection of everything that has made Lim Young-Woong one of the most influential and beloved artists in the Korean music industry.

With the new album, Lim Young-Woong sold over 940,000 record copies in the first 24 hours, making the record a phenomenal success.

Selling almost one million copies on Hanteo (a Korean music distributor), Lim Young Woong has become the top-selling soloist (for album sales in under 24 hours) on the site. Furthermore, the record, titled “IM HERO,” has become the fifth highest-selling record in Hanteo’s history in first-day sales.

What’s more, the album’s title track, “If I Ever Meet You Again,” immediately charted on all top Korean charts, including MelOn. The title track also instantly trended on Korean YouTube. The song effortlessly continues to conquer the top spot in a variety of Trending playlists.
